Destructive Fun. Drink Responsibly.

Whoever said that fun had to be a destructive past-time?

What's worse than watching on as the people you love destroy their bodies slowly but surely being unable to stop them from what they deem to be fun? Well, I'm sure there are some things that are worse. I guarantee you though, when you try to warn them but they refuse to listen, all you can feel is heartbroken.

The result of a long night of 'fun': feeling groggy and tired with headaches, nausea and vomiting. That's the definition of 'feel-good' isn't it? Wrong. That's the definition of your body's rejection to your night time activity. And if you're not listening to me, you sure aren't going to be listening to your body either.

Now, I never once suggested stopping altogether. A little self-control would make me happy.

Alcohol abuse is a major problem within our society and yet it isn't viewed in such a way because it's considered the social 'norm'. People aren't often fazed by the effects of chronic alcohol consumption or even binge drinking because they have no idea just how badly it affects their body. Sure, it may appear as if some people escape the repercussions but you don't really know the inner workings of another's body, do you?

The excuse of "I hardly drink so there's no harm in getting drunk" is no excuse at all. Because when people think alcohol abuse, they only ever seem to think 'cirrhosis' but did you know that cirrhosis is irreversible and is the last thing that happens before your liver eventually gives out? Did you know that you may not even get to the point of cirrhosis if you manage to die of alcohol poisoning first?

Alcohol poisoning is a medical emergency. If you miss the symptoms, the result could be death. And binge drinking is the main cause of it.

I'm not hiding my concern about this newfound lifestyle some of my dearest friends have developed. I may come off as the party-pooper, the boring one, the one who's trying to stop all their fun. I know many others share a similar concern with a friend or loved one...be it alcohol, drugs, tobacco or any other substance.

Never hesitate to voice your concerns.

And if you find yourself to be guilty of a lack of control with your liquor, be considerate of your friends. They're concerned for your life.

Don't let your youth be an excuse for you to die young. Drink Responsibly.

Trust, Change & Friendship

Life is an ocean tide
Love is the sweetest honey
Friendship is a double-edged sword
And betrayal runs as deep as the scarlet flowing within us.
By: Me

I've been thinking about a lot of things recently. For some reason, a trip to Trinidad always gives me some sort of revelation of what's happening in my life. I guess that's another reason why I look forward to my trips back there almost every year.

Friendships are precious things, aren't they? But not many of them stay with you for as long as you'd like. People change. There will always be people around to help out and many acquaintances to be made, but how many are true friends? People grow apart as they grow in life. Our experiences make us who we are. Sometimes people grow closer with change. We are who we are. We can't always flow smoothly along the river just because we want to. There are things that we have no control over. So when it's time to let go, then we must learn to do so.

Letting go can be painful. But if there's a person bringing down your good moods and is just being a constant drag on your spirit, then it's necessary. Such a person can only be holding you back being the best you can be and holding you back from spreading your wings, whether they're aware of it or not. Nobody deserves to be unhappy. Chaos and confusion - no thanks. A simple talk can lead to an argument and I much prefer to avoid confrontations such as those. I like it when everyone can get along without one person trying to take charge. Of course, reality is what it is and humans are unpredictable beings.

Change is a part of life. We all need to learn to accept it and move on. It doesn't help to live in the past.

Bonds That Tie

*Lost In Thought*

Many people have some vague idea of what a "true friend" is. But what really makes a person a "true" friend? People change, whether they know it or not, and it will always have an effect on current relationships. Priorities and ambitions set people apart. Interests become the dividing lines. Everyone is either a stranger or an acquaintance but who can really be called a friend?

Friendship isn't a one way avenue, is it? One person shouldn't be the only one making the trips, spending the money and making the calls, should they? People grow apart as they grow up, or grow closer together depending on how they change as they walk their paths. One may be ambitious and may have priorities set straight, while the other may be the complete opposite. As we grow up, we move on from our childhood and we learn responsibilities. Life evolves slowly as each path is laid before us and we move forward. We say we'll keep in touch, but how strong are these bonds really? How long do these feelings last?

I don't know how long I can maintain the bonds I hold with those I call friends now. Many years have passed us together, and I'd like many more to come and go in the same fashion but nothing remains the same. How many people are "best friends forever" or "friends for life"? I don't think there are many. But all I'll do is treasure every moment and memory that I spend with my friends and pray that they last for many years.

Live In The Moment. Live In The Present.

Fun & Happyness

I went over to a friend's house to play Rock Band yesterday! And it was awesome =D I had lots and lots of fun and I also managed to squeeze in a bit of studying. I remember the names of a good few drugs that I had looked at yesterday so I think I did well =D It was like...5 hours of Rock Band goodness *sigh* but I don't think I played enough lol

Then afterwards I went to the Ship Inn for a friend's birthday. It was loads and loads of fun (after a somewhat boring start). His mom was there for like...2 hours before she finally left us and she wouldn't let him have any alcohol but everyone else at the table she bought for lol it was sooo funny! We came to the conclusion though, that she had told the bartender to make the drinks weak cuz everyone was complaining about that and I'm pretty sure I had the strongest drink at the table...white wine =] not much you can do to make wine any lighter =P Masala was playing...not like I really know much about them but they're pretty cool and they have the most awesome guitarist!!! Well that I've ever seen....live =] it was really cool to watch them play.

I also got to talk to a friend of mine about something that had been on my mind for a couple of weeks now and I ended up telling the entire truth about some stuff. *sigh*. I'm not sure if that was the wisest thing to do but now we both know how we both feel and things have gotten complicated again. I just wish we could have a simple friendship without any of our usual complications...just wanna be friends like I am with all my other friends. But I can't help but see him as somebody who's special to me and I don't know what to do about that. I just wish....*sigh*

But all in all, I had a really awesome fun-filled day! =D
