Enter The Dragon

新年快乐! (Simplified Chinese)
新年快樂! (Traditional Chinese)

Last January, the year of the Tiger shuffled out with a bang before giving the year of the Rabbit, the more peaceful of the zodiac signs, a fairly rough start. Today, the Rabbit peacefully allows the entrance of the respected Dragon. And now, we start a new year. What does the year of the Dragon have in store for us, I wonder? I'm looking forward to it!

On a side note, I get fairly nervous every time we Skype my family in Hong Kong for the usual lunar new year greetings. My Cantonese is beyond terrible!

Meanwhile, here's a super fun video I saw the other day...veering a little away from tradition but entertaining nonetheless. Party Rock Anthem has shaken up the cosmos.

The Year of the Rabbit

Okay...I know this is 2 weeks late but...

Happy Lunar New Year!

It's time to say good bye to the fierce trouble-causing year of the Tiger and welcome the more peaceful year of the Rabbit.

Wishing you all the best for this year!

New Year! New Beginnings!

新年快乐
Xīn nián kuài lè!
Happy Chinese New Year!

As we usher out the year of the Ox, we warmly welcome the year of the Tiger.

I was sure to give my Grandmother a call in Hong Kong to wish her a happy and prosperous new year. It was more or less:

新年快樂! (Gung hei fat choi!) 身体健康!(Sun tai gin hong!)

And from my heart to yours, I wish you all a most prosperous new year!

And on the 12th day of the new year, I blogged...

It's the 12th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and I haven't done anything close to productive. I had a class on the New Year's Day unfortunately, not that it made a difference here...no one knows about Chinese New Year...except for the Chinese people...obviously...

12 days and 23 lecture hours later and I can proudly say that I haven't picked up a textbook or peeked at a lecture or even listened intently to one. Ok...so I'm not so proud of it, but I apparently don't feel bad enough about it yet to actually do something *sigh* what am I gonna do with myself?

Instead, I've been watching anime, and reading manga and The Host during class. I started reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer yesterday evening, just to see if it would spark an interest and now I can't stop. She's a good writer, after all =] And yet I'm still managing to find new things to watch, anime-wise.

I've become quite the delinquent.
That certainly needs to change.

Entering the Year of the Ox

It's Chinese New Year! And I wish all the best for all other Chinese people around the world =]

The year of the Rat has passed. A year in which many things have happened...both good and bad. And we can only hope for the best for the Chinese lunar new year...the year of the Ox.

I don't normally do anything special on New Year's Eve. My Mum doesn't cook anything special and we don't decorate either. We aren't allowed to eat meat on New Year's day, which is perfectly fine with me since I'm not a big meat eater anyways =] Normally we'll sit and watch the CCTV Spring Festival Gala live on New Year's Eve. It starts at 8 p.m. (China time) and continues till 1 a.m.

The Spring Festival Gala is always really interesting to watch. They have a number of performances from singing and dancing to comedy sketches and crosstalks. They don't translate the sketches and crosstalks but sometimes they're just funny to watch =D

Of course, my Mum and I called our family in Hong Kong and I spoke to my Grandmother wishing her a Happy New Year and my wishes for good health =] She has quite a few ailments to deal with so I hope she gets better...
