Games Night

The Faculty of Medical Sciences had a "games night" planned out tonight. Not a huge thing. And it was way fun!

Everyone brought whatever games they had at home. I don't really have any...at all (yeah that's a bit sad) except for a deck of playing cards and UNO! There were other games there like Taboo, Clue, Mafia (I think it was?) and a dude who lives on hall had a PS3 there. When I got there around 7:45 (we were supposed to meet at 7 @ Frank Worrell Hall, UWI), I thought I was late. Turns out I was early! It slipped my mind the way things work here. Bajan 7pm means anytime after 8pm haha. Dunno how I let that one get by me.

I was throwing out the garbage and walking down my driveway this evening and, as usual, I was looking up at the sky (I love looking at the sky at night). And I saw the sliver of the moon and a star right next to it. I called my Mum to look at it and she told me to take a picture...so I did!

Makes me think little storybook pictures and drawings that portray the moon and stars together...right next to one another. Not something I really see often in real life though =]

Apollyon

Book 5 of the Left Behind series!
Yay! I've finished the first 4 books and it's just so riveting! I really love reading these books. They're so interesting =] I always wanna know what's gonna happen next and what happens to certain characters. So despite the fact that I've got tests and stuff coming up (one in 6 days actually) that I haven't studied for (and it's not like I've been attentive in lectures), I'm still reading these books =D too bad they won't really be of much help in my courses haha.

Books 3 (Nicolae) & 4 (Soul Harvest) of the series. =]

Purple's Palette

I scavenged this old photo somewhere on my laptop today =] I took it last May when I went to the Globe Drive In. Taken during the good ole' days when my Sony Ericsson's camera still worked. I miss being able to snap a pic with my cellphone when I see a good view =[

So this week is Med Sci week at the great old University of the West Indies. The first one ever at the Cave Hill campus since, after all, this is it's first year of existence here. Apparently the colour we've chosen for ourselves is purple! Our class reps had suggested that we all wear purple today but for those who didn't have purple shirts, we could wear black instead. I'm one of those who wore...black! I own no purple shirts...which is odd because I really like purple. And then I realised that the only purple item I own is a little purple hair clip...so I wore that instead! =D

So there's my purple contribution to the day's events =]

The Medical Science's Faculty is way too small to have its own week apparently so we've shared it with the Postgrads. There's gonna be a Panel Discussion tomorrow night entitled "Lowering The Rate of Unwanted Pregnancies in Barbados". Boring topic in my opinion, so I won't be going to that. Then there's a Beer Lime scheduled for Thursday night. It may be cool but it's not really my thing. Now I'm hearing about a Games Night that people want. That might be fun but I dunno.

My mom's making macaroni pie tonight! I'm really craving it right now. I could drool from merely thinking about dinner xD

Oh, How Dumb!

I'm pretty sure I have one of the dumbest, if not the dumbest, "teacher" among all 3 U.W.I. campuses...in fact, the world!

She's supposed to be teaching us Neuroscience, a fairly difficult course to handle (especially when studying for 6 others. I'm sure she thinks she's teaching us something, but she's really not. She's absolutely awful at explaining just about anything and she seems to be easily confused when people ask her a bunch of questions to clarify her unclear explanations.

We had a tutorial yesterday with her, and it went just as anybody would expect it to: badly. She didn't even seem to be prepared for her own tutorial. Gave us 3 assignments to complete and only went through half of 1 *sigh* and she even left out #2 which we spent like 15 minutes discussing only to be left unsure of the answer because she said "ok, how about we move onto the next question". Btw, we never got back to that question.

She even responded to a girl's reasoning with "Can somebody translate what she just said please? I don't think my brain is working this morning."

Ha! I'll never forget that she said that. I don't think her brain works...ever. Everyone wants her gone. I really do wish something could make her and her condescending "I know everything" attitude just go back to whatever country she came from.

Left Behind

A friend of mine introduced me to the Left Behind Series just recently and even though I told myself I'd read them when summer comes around, I couldn't help but start reading the first of the 16 books: Left Behind. I saw the movie Left Behind about 8 years or so ago and it was quite intriguing...I guess remembering the movie made me curious to read the book. And since I started, I don't really wanna stop the series.

Due to the existence of this thing called University, I took forever (more like a week) to complete the small book. I started the 2nd book, Tribulation Force, today and I'm already more than halfway through it =D

I'm such a delinquent (still). I've been reading these books during most of my lectures! But shhh that's our little secret ;P

Limits

First off...I forgot yesterday was Valentine's Day! Not that it's existence ever did much for me in the past though. I honestly couldn't care less for the day and I don't see why it should be so special. I've never bought anyone anything for V-day and I probably never will =]

Moving on...I love this time of the year! But this time of the year is going by and soon it'll be gone and it'll be oven-hot all over again =[ The coolest time of the year in the tropics will be dearly missed until October/November *sigh* So as far as I'm concerned, there are 2 seasons (other than the designated rainy and dry seasons since it's not really rainy during this period): hot and cool =]

So the past week really wasn't the best week for the year. My mom had an unfortunate fall and hurt her ankle (thank goodness it's not so bad that she can't walk). It's been swollen for a few days already and it's not going down so she'll have to call and make an appoint to see a doctor. She hasn't been able to drive, of course, and so I've been doing an extra bit of driving. She still cooks though but I do pretty much everything else...washing the dishes, laundry and house cleaning (yay for me!). As a doctor in the making though...I felt utterly useless (something I think/feel quite often: one of the most useless people in the world).

The 3rd week of UWI has gone by and I've done a little reading for some of my courses so far. But I doubt much of it has stuck in my head *sigh* I have a tutorial on Wednesday with the worst lecturer in the world. I haven't even bothered trying to listen to her lectures so I don't really know what's been going on and I'm still not quite into the studying so I'm totally lost. Yet she wants us all to talk and discuss and talk and talk and talk in her tutorial. Ugh, I hate those kinds of things...even more so when I haven't been studying.

But she truly is the worst lecturer, ever. She has a condescending attitude towards us but she can't explain a concept properly...in fact, she doesn't even go through the basics and skims over the more important things like related diseases. She just sends us extra handouts and says read them! But she doesn't go through them in class or anything. I don't like at ALL! She's so frustrating! I wish she would just go back to wherever she came from *cry*

And on the 12th day of the new year, I blogged...

It's the 12th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and I haven't done anything close to productive. I had a class on the New Year's Day unfortunately, not that it made a difference here...no one knows about Chinese New Year...except for the Chinese people...obviously...

12 days and 23 lecture hours later and I can proudly say that I haven't picked up a textbook or peeked at a lecture or even listened intently to one. Ok...so I'm not so proud of it, but I apparently don't feel bad enough about it yet to actually do something *sigh* what am I gonna do with myself?

Instead, I've been watching anime, and reading manga and The Host during class. I started reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer yesterday evening, just to see if it would spark an interest and now I can't stop. She's a good writer, after all =] And yet I'm still managing to find new things to watch, anime-wise.

I've become quite the delinquent.
That certainly needs to change.
